Men Only
June is Men’s Health Month – a critical time to raise awareness and take action on the health issues that affect men most.
Heart disease alone is responsible for 2 out of every 4 male deaths annually. It’s time to prioritize your health. Here are key steps every man should take to protect his heart and overall well-being:
- Exercise Regularly: Aim for at least 150 minutes of aerobic activity each week—such as walking. Move 10 minutes for every hour you are awake!
- Eat a Heart-Healthy Diet: Fuel your body with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats like olive oil and nuts. READ LABELS to reduce saturated fats, trans fats, sugars, and processed foods.
- QUIT SMOKING: There is no safe level of tobacco use. Quitting drastically reduces your risk of heart disease and other serious health issues.
- Maintain a Healthy Weight: Excess weight significantly increases the risk of heart disease. Combine consistent physical activity with smart nutrition to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
- Manage Stress: Chronic stress takes a toll on your heart. Practice mindfulness, exercise, or talk to a professional to keep stress in check.
- Limit Alcohol Intake: Keep alcohol to a maximum of two 3 oz drinks per day. Excessive consumption increases the risk of dementia, high blood pressure and heart failure.
- Control Blood Pressure: Know your numbers. High blood pressure is a silent killer. Monitor regularly and manage it through lifestyle changes or medications if needed.
- Regulate Cholesterol Levels: High cholesterol contributes directly to heart disease. Make dietary changes and take prescribed medications to stay in a healthy range.
- Prioritize Sleep: Sleep is essential to heart health. Aim for 7–8 hours per night with a consistent sleep routine.
- Get Regular Check-Ups: See your healthcare provider for annual check-ups, prostate, blood work, and screenings. Early detection saves lives.
Small changes today can lead to a longer, healthier tomorrow. Take charge of your health this June……Then Keep It Up
