Pick What You Ponder
You Can’t Always Choose What Happens—But You Can Choose What You Focus On
As we grow older, we discover that many things are simply out of our control. We cannot change the weather, other people, the past, or any health challenge that comes our way. There is something we can influence every day: where we put our attention.
Think of your mind as an airport. Thoughts are constantly arriving and departing. You may not be able to stop every negative thought from landing—but you don’t have to give it a permanent parking space!
Try These Positive Choices:
🌱 LOOK FOR WHAT IS GOOD
Each morning, name three things you are grateful for. They don’t have to be big—a beautiful sunrise, a good cup of coffee, a phone call from a friend, or simply feeling well enough to enjoy the day.
😊 CHOOSE YOUR COMPANY
Spend time with people who encourage you, make you laugh, and help you see possibilities rather than limitations.
🧠 CHANGE THE QUESTION
Instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?” try asking, “What can I do about it?”
That small change can move you from worry toward action.
🚶 KEEP MOVING FORWARD
Don’t spend all your energy replaying yesterday. The past can teach you, but it doesn’t have to control you. Ask yourself, “What is one positive thing I can do today?” Help a friend; you will feel better!
❤️ BE KIND TO YOURSELF
You don’t have to solve everything today. Give yourself the same patience and encouragement you would give a good friend. See Above!
YOUR CHALLENGE
You may not be able to choose every circumstance—but you can choose your response.
So today, take charge of your mental airport to decide what is landing and wants to park!
