It is important to BE INVOLVED to ensure you receive the best healthcare treatment. Follow the following steps to be secure in your advocacy.

  1. Choose the right healthcare provider: Research and select a healthcare provider or facility.  Look for providers who have a good reputation and positive reviews.
  2. Build a relationship with your primary care physician:  A good relationship with your PCP can help them understand your healthcare needs better and provide personalized, coordinated care.
  3. Prepare for appointments: Learn to RECORD YOUR VISIT. Put your phone on record beside you.  It is your legal right.
  4. Advocate for yourself. Ask for clarification if something is unclear, and don’t hesitate to seek a second opinion. Review recording when you get home.
  5. Stay organized with medical information:  Build your HealthCare Notebook to included:  comprehensive record of your medical history, including diagnoses, surgeries, allergies, medications, and any other relevant information. Keep this information with you during all visits.
